Our Next Production...

Our next production will be Aladdin, which will take place from Tuesday 15th to Saturday 19th November 2022, including a matinee performance on the Saturday. For more information, read on!

Welcome to St. Cuthbert’s, a fun loving amateur dramatic society based in Darwen, Lancashire.

Our society was first formed in 1898, so has been, “Providing Entertainment for the Wider Community,” on and off for over 120 years!

As well as organising events for adults, we also encourage young people from our primary school, church organisations, local secondary schools and our community to experience being part of an award-winning performance on stage. As members of NODA we have won several cups and had even more nominations for productions over the years.

Our most recent evolution began in 1998 when we performed our first pantomime of recent years - ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ We now perform a pantomime every year and plan other dramas, murder mysteries, theatre visits and quizzes in between.

About Aladdin!  Our 2022 Production!

Straight from the classic “Arabian Nights”, with a slight detour along the way, Aladdin tells the story of a poor, lovestruck boy who longs to be with Princess Jasmine.

Meanwhile the evil Abanazar wants to be the most powerful sorcerer in the world and plans to use Aladdin for his evil schemes!

Meet Aladdin, Wishee Washee, and Widow Twankey as they try to stop Abanazar and his henchman, Abizmal, from stealing a magic lamp with a secret inside.

Will the evil Abanazar manage to claim the lamp for himself?

Will Aladdin win the heart of the Princess?

Will Widow Twankey finish all her laundry?

Find out in Aladdin - the new family-friendly pantomime from St Cuthbert's Amateur Dramatic Society.

Performances run nightly from Tuesday 15th November to Saturday 19th November, beginning at 7:30pm prompt. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday 19th November, beginning at 2:15pm prompt. Refreshments will be available each performance with drinks, confectionery and ice cream supplied by Mrs Dowson's.

This year's raffle will be raising funds for both St. Cuthbert's Church and Darwen Food Larder. Our takings from Friday's raffle will be donated in full to the Food Larder and we will have donation boxes out at the end of every performance, inviting you to make a monetary donation or add food/household items to be donated to the Food Larder.

What We Do

Our big production, usually a pantomime, comes in November. This is a mammoth production and over the years we have had several NODA trophies and even more nominations for various aspects of the pantomime! We arrange theatre visits as appropriate.

We host two quizzes each year. We start off the year with a winter quiz in January or February and come September, we host our second. They are both fun social evenings that aren’t too serious, both include supper and we have a bar.

After Easter, in late spring or early summer, we look to produce either a drama or murder mystery or variety show. Whichever we choose it’s usually a light-hearted affair! Sometimes with a supper and bar again.

Our safeguarding policy is linked to our parish church and details can be found here
